Background: Kif2a is a kinesin-like motor protein that depolymerizes microtubules. It is found in several vertebrate cell types but is strongly expressed in neuronal cells. In dividing cells it is required for bipolar spindle formation and chromosome segregation. In neuronal cells it is involved in neurite outgrowth.
